**Seminar**
Lessons Learn Watching 15,000 Gunfights Seminar:
This seminar will distill thousands of gunfights and other defensive encounters caught on surveillance video for the most significant attitude, skills, and plan that self-defenders need to focus on in order to prevail in a defensive encounter. This is an evidenced-based approach to self-defense that everyone can learn and benefit from.
Attention! Real Life defensive encounters caught on video that may be graphic.
**Critical Defensive Handgun Skills**
During the Survive the Fight Lessons Learned Seminar on Friday night, attendees will learn what skills they WILL need in a defensive encounter and why. Saturday at the range is where we learn and practice those skills. This will focus on defensive encounters where a gun is needed rather than other skills. We will learn the Pareto Principle of Gunfighting and how that should affect and inform our training.
This is not a basic pistol course. Due to the material being covered, if you are not able to work your pistol properly and safely, from the holster, this may not the course for you at this time. Please contact the host to find out how to get up to speed prior to class. You do not have to have a high level of marksmanship to begin, though it will still benefit greatly if you are already at that point, you do need to be self-sufficient and safe in all aspects from carry, the draw, to firing and re-holstering. If you are unsure if you meet criteria, please contact the host for discussion and evaluation.
**ASP Church Security**
Material Covered: 1) Why church security is unique 2) How to balance a culture of openness and caring for the hurting and marginalized with safety and security for members 3) The most likely risks and practical ways to mitigate and minimize them. 4) An active shooter situation is an incredibly rare possibility, why you absolutely need a good plan anyway. 5) How to share the plan with the larger congregation 6) Insurance and Liability Concerns 7) How to deal with armed congregants if you do have a regular security team and if you do not. 8) Considerations in forming an official security team/roles and requirements for members.
Church Security Live Fire Skills (4 hours) Some of that time will be used for speaking and discussing principles. Short lecture will be given. Bring what you use (or plan to use) when carrying to church. Also covered- 1) What type of deadly threat situations are you most likely to face and how that is wildly different from a regular CCW scenario. 2)Gear and Skills required. 3) Stress testing what you know and use and finding out if it is suitable for the task. 4) Critical skills unique to church and large crowd situations.
Items to bring to the range, for either range class: Whatever gun you carry in whatever holster you carry it in. Dangerous holster and carry methods will not be allowed on the line. This includes the Serpa holster. If you are unsure if your holster is adequate, please ask. If you carry in any other way than on the waist, we can accommodate this and we encourage you to train the way you carry. HOWEVER, understand that you will likely learn the shortcomings of that particular method of carry up to and including not be able to meet time and marksmanship requirements. This would be good to vet in your equipment now, but understand you may not get the most out of class. Again, if you have questions or concerns about your carry set up, please contact the host. Mode of carry may also be restricted by the host and range.
You will also need 300 rounds of range ammo and at least 3 magazines. Bring eye and ear protection. A brimmed hat and clothing that protects you from hot brass is recommended. This is a class where you need to practice how you carry, so try to dress and carry as closely to that as possible while still remaining safe and comfortable for a full day of training and shooting.
You will also need plans to keep yourself properly hydrated. The range is outdoors so dress accordingly and consider layers and rain gear. Bring sunscreen, bug spray, and a camp chair for break times.
It is always good to consider the various tools and items you need to keep your gun running, batteries for electronic hearing protection, etc.
UPON ARRIVAL CHECK IN WITH STAFF. While you are welcome to load mags to your heart’s content before class begins, DO NOT UNCASE OR UNHOLSTER GUNS PRIOR TO CLASS UNLESS SPECIFICALLY ASKED TO DO SO BY STAFF. NO GUNS SHOULD BE TOUCHED EVER BEHIND THE FIRING LINE.
